Burn Creams and other topical ointments are typically heavy viscosity lotions loaded with oils, powders, water and other ingredients. These topicals attempt to relieve burning and itching that typically accompany a burn, but they also contain other materials designed to assist with healing and prevent infections.
Some of these ingredients are solids that require proper dispersion (link) to create a stable suspension with the liquid phase. Other ingredients are oil based and typically discontinuous with the main carrier, usually water.
Sonic’s Sonolator Homogenizer technology uses back pressure and fluid acceleration to tear solid agglomerates apart while emulsifying oils into the water carrier phase. The result is a smooth, high sheen lotion product that absorbs into the skin better.
